For some time now Dubai has been a hotbed for showcasing stunning architecture and some extreme construction techniques. Now comes Hydropolis a series of underwater hotels by Crescent Hydopolis Resorts PLC.
The group has spent six years bringing together the talents of submarine construction specialists with teams specializing in safety, oceanic architecture and design. Not only that they had to figure our how to integrate standard hotel business plans to the underwater model. Marketing teams worked with all players to help bridge human resistance to living under the seas.
The first hotel is under construction in Dubai and will have 220 suites. The entire complex is expected to cover 650 acres and besides the underwater lodging portion will include a land station and connecting tunnel with trains providing transportation under water and back again. Also included will be a cosmetic surgery clinic, a marine biological research laboratory and conference center. One portion of the hotel will be in shallow water and another will be in deep water. Both portions are constructed as “bowls” and then moved into placed and anchored to the sea bed. Future hotels are planned for Isle of Man, London, Monaco, Munich, New York and Qingdao.
