Automatic Gutter CleaningI don’t know about you but anytime I can minimize my interaction with a ladder I do. It’s not only that I dislike heights but I also dislike mechanisms that take me to heights. And yes that even includes airplanes. But this post is only a little bit about heights. The rest of it is about robotics. The folks at iRobot®, marketers of the now famous Roomba® have their hands on the 2008 International Consumer Electronic Showcase (CES) Best of Innovations Design and Engineering Award for the Looj™. This is a robot that cleans your gutters. I’m not making this up. Many of you probably spend some time every year cleaning your gutters. Many more of you probably do not, but that’s a whole other post. You operate the Looj wirelessly with a remote that also becomes a handle for the thing. You still need the ladder since you have to be able to watch it as it works, but you can clean an entire section at a time so you don’t have to move the ladder as much. The robot costs $99 and I’m going to guess that it will find its way into many men’s stockings this Christmas and dads all over the country that didn’t get one at Christmas will probably get one for Father’s Day. I’m kind of a tech junkie so I think I’ll install some gutters on my house so I will have some places for the Looj to play.
