Monday Morning Mumblings for 7/14

Some Fiberglass Insulation Claims High Degree of Green-ness: Owens Corning recently pointed out that it is only using nine percent of the energy it used to use in the making of its fiberglass insulation. The company also recycles a billion pounds of glass each year. This is all part of the company’s efforts to reduce its energy-intensity by 25 percent before 2012. If you are wondering where the payback is in using the company’s brand of insulation it points out that the energy used in the production of the insulation is now recouped through energy savings in five weeks, once installed in a building.

Habitat for Humanity and the Flooded Midwest Get Help from the Heartbreakers: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are auctioning off seats to their summer tour with the proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity so it can help to rebuild homes in the flooded Midwest. The opening bid for a pair of tickets is $1000. These are front row and other premium seats and people can bid on them at Ticketmaster.

Employment Pessimism Continues: If there is any validity to the latest numbers from the Conference Board’s Employment Trends Index then now may be a good time to take some calculated steps to increase your job skills. The Index declined again in June signaling more job losses in the coming months. Total employment, other than farm employment, has dropped every month since December 2007 and is down eight percent since July of last year. Also noted was the decline was largely attributable to the construction and goods-related industries.
