Cordless Battery Blues Revisited

Not long after running on at length back in October about the high price of cordless drill batteries I went ahead and tried one of those recycled (refilled) ones through MTO Battery online, (the one recommended by PutnamEco in a comment to the original post).

Here’s how the numbers came out:

  • $27 for the rebuilt 12V NiCad 2100mAh DeWalt Battery
  • $27.70 for round trip postage

The performance is acceptable for how I use the drill gun and recycling this way saved me from having to dispose of an old battery. I recently checked and a new battery was priced in the store at somewhere around $60. I’m still not thrilled with the price, but I guess it is what it is.

  • Criminey, recycling should be easy and painless. Seems to me the Government should encourage this type of transaction by eliminating or subsidizing a large portion of the shipping costs.

I am wondering if there is anything built into the economic stimulus package that may possibly cover this, considering it deals with ‘greener energy’. Something to ponder.
