New Player Brings More Specifics to the Specification Channel

For all of those who spend large portions of their days sifting through product specifications, manufacturers’ Web sites, and in-house cataloging tools there is a new kid in town determined to make their work easier and more productive. Called CSPECS, this Web-based effort is aiming to become the online resource for the specification channel. Manufacturers are of course taking notice as their wares are finding new avenues of exposure.

There are a lot of challenges faced by those in the spec channel, and it’s one area of the AEC industry that doesn’t get much attention paid to it. That very well may be changing and the seeds of change came out in a podcast I did recently with Kenneth Hall, the product development manager for CSPECS, Construction Specifications, Inc. Listen in above.

I just went to http://www.cspecs.com after listening to this podcast. The search is pretty good since the products are in categories already, but most of the products have no info associated with them. Why? I went to the product mfgr’s site and found the info, but it would be a lot better if all the products had the data sheets for them. I think this is going places, just needs to be built up.

  • Yeah, you know I should have mentioned it is just getting going but my understanding is that it will be filling out quickly in Q1.

  • The reason that many of the categorized products do not have the data sheet profile for them yet is because we first categorize the manufacturers products. After the manufacturer’s company profile is complete, the work begins on the product profiles. This is an involved process as we have incorporated many aspects of the spec process and it is not to be taken lightly.

When we created http://www.cspecs.com, the goal was to provide as much information about building products as possible. The quick success of the company and the notice received by industry voices like Duane is attributed to the fact that we do answer so many underlying issues in the construction products world.
