Construction Help Wanted Signs Appear In Canada: According to the Construction Sector Council, a Canadian government and private industry collaboration, Canada is looking for 94,000 new workers to keep pace with building demands and an additional 162,000 to replace retiring workers. All industrial and engineering trades, construction managers, contractors and supervisors are in demand. The country is trying to convince people to put off retirement and it is working to attract more women and Aboriginals to the sector. One other thing being considered is increasing the numbers of temporary foreign workers.

Australian Workers Pull The Plug For Safety: A group of union workers walked off the job on a Hindmarsh Construction site alleging unsafe conditions. Union officials claim to have been denied access to inspect the site and two workers have allegedly been locked out as the company contemplates disciplinary action against them. Apparently the workers had blown the whistle on the unsafe conditions. A union representative had this to say:
“But this is the sort of thing if guys stand up for their safety and stick up for their mates, this shouldn’t be able to be used as a bullying tactic to force workers not to stick up for their rights with safety. If the lads feel strongly enough they may walk off the job again, we’re continuing to have those conversations, but all options will be on the table.”
