Okay, this is just what I’ve been waiting for. I can’t tell you how long I’ve been thinking about this but it seems like forever. We, and here I am speaking of those who use Mac machines, are on the verge of having our very own Z-Wave home automation setup.

We will soon be able to control thermostats, dimmers, sensors of all kinds, garage door openers, motorized shades and sooo much more from the comfort of our wireless keyboards.

Called Houseport, from Wayne Dalton, the product will cost a scant $87 on its release June 1. You can get one now for $79 while they last. This software taps into any Z-Wave unit – and there are hundreds of them. You get the software, and a USB cable that you can attach to a Z-Wave adapter (popularly sold for PCs at about $40). You drag and drop the Z-Wave products onto your floor plan for registration. You can change the floor plan graphic and you can even adjust colors and transparencies.

Let the automation begin!
