Compare 4 Low Cost Oscillating Tool Kits

by | Feb 27, 2019 | Construction Products, Trending | 1 comment

Low cost oscillating tool kits are everywhere these days. But, that’s a fairly recent event. Before 2009, a German company named Fein was the only oscillating tool manufacturer, and had been since it came out with The Original in 1967. It’s patents expired in 2009 allowing a rush of copycats. Fein is still improving on its original model. In 2007 it came out with the first tool-free blade changing system, followed by a cordless model in 2011 and a near-zero vibration tool in 2014. The Fein tools are not low cost, but people who use theses types of tools everyday swear by them for their accuracy, consistency, quietness and longevity. You can see a Fein oscillating tool right here. Like everything on this page, if you use a link to Amazon and decide to buy something, Construction Informer gets a little ad revenue.

Low Cost Oscillating Tool Kits Features

Oscillating tools work by vibrating the accessory (blade) side-to-side. That action develops much less dust than a tool that cuts with the typical circular motion. One of the best features of oscillating tools is the way the blade meets the work. You can cut, sand, remove grout and scrape in many instances where a circular tool just won’t fit. Need to cut trim and moulding along the floor when installing new flooring? This is the tool for that. You can also get into places like under sinks to cut sink mounts and pipes. It works really well for removing baseboards with a bi-metal blade that cuts through the nails holding the baseboard.

When you want to cut off those shims you used when installing a door, this is the tool for the job. I’ve also used these tools to cut off rusted toilet bolts, and I even used it in the tight spaces under a hot tub to cut off the rusted bolt holding the motor in place. In short, if you have one, you’ll use it.

All of these low cost oscillating tool kits include blades or accessories. Use straight blades for short plunge cuts and half-round blades for long end-to-end cuts. The triangular shaped accessory holds sandpaper using a hook and loop system. This makes it really easy to change the sandpaper. Just pull it off, and press a new one in its place. You can also get blades with diamond or carbide grit on the edge for cutting tile, grout and hard materials. There are even blades for scraping. All of these low cost oscillating tool kits cost between $40 and $90.

My main issue is that the studs on the rings that hold the attachments in place all sheared off within the first 2 hours of using the tool.

These blades cut EXACTLY the same if not better than my name brand blades and they ALL last exactly the same amount of or more.

“This is on great tool and will turn some rpm. Comes with a great storage bag and pockets for all the extra parts.”

Amazon Review Perspectives

For the price I am very impressed with this multipurpose oscillating tool.

The blades that come with this tool are really bad.

the tool is heavy and worked smoothly to do a moderate sized job of cutting door jambs for laminate install.

We’ve had this for a while now and have used it several times for things we never thought about.”

Amazon Review Perspectives

Used about 10 times, on/off switch stopped working then the motor just stopped. I Contacted the company they did nothing to satisfy me. I thought a Rockwell tool would work more than 10 times …apparently not this one.

Love it. The changeable cutting blades are a nice feature but it still can use the old blades. Its amazing the things that I find I am using this for.

Completely satisfied with this quality tool! I gave it a real workout restoring my deck.

Amazon Review Perspectives

I tried 2, they both broke on the first uses…

First bought the smaller version, mostly for craft projects and loved it BUT found I needed something stronger and sturdier for house hold project.

Is it weird to have a crush on a power tool?! I LOVE this tool.
