SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center mascot, Rally Squirrel has found a permanent home in a new playground above the Bob Costas Cancer Center at the medical center, with the help of Kirberg Company, a commercial and residential roofing company in St. Louis.
Kirberg donated the crane and manpower to transport and place the Rally Squirrel along with his tree at the new playground on the roof of the Cancer Center, located at 1465 South Grand Boulevard. Rally Squirrel, the unofficial
post-season mascot, whose t-shirt and memorabilia donations helped to raise over half a million dollars to fund the playground, is now featured in a new outdoor playground, called “Rally Squirrel Play Area.” The 2,000 square foot playground opened on April 12, 2012, with St. Louis Cardinals’ left fielder Matt Holliday on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremonies.
“We can’t thank Kirberg Company enough for the generous support of this project,” said Dan Buck, Executive Director of Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation. “They saved us several thousand dollars in both equipment and manpower by donating their crane and crew to get Rally and his tree in place up on the roof.”
“We could not be more pleased to help with such a worthy cause,” says Eric Kirberg, Vice President of Kirberg Company. “The playground will provide a place of rest and comfort to the children of Cardinal Glennon who really need it. We’re very happy to have played a part in its creation.”
In addition to Rally Squirrel memorabilia donations, the playground was made possible by many generous donations, and the many volunteers who donate their time to SSM Cardinal Glennon.
